PIXIE's STORY

So here we are with the perfect Dobe, Zorro. He doesn't bark. He gives us clues as to what he needs. He follows commands. The one thing that worried us is his need for friends. Zorro is Mr. Social. So Maddie and I convince Scott that we need another Dobe. That's when we signed up again with DAR&E. DAR&E is so professional that we had to go through the entire screening process again - and rightly so! Scott was NOT convinced that we needed another Dobe when we had the perfect Dobe. Whereas Mad and I KNEW we needed another Dobe. So the compromise was made: Let's meet some female Dobes and see if we can find a fit for Zorro.

The road was a little bit "rough". When you have one, you want the best for him or her when searching for your "next" one. Trials and tribulations brought us back to our foster mom. She had a red female. We called her. Let's see. We took a Sunday drive out to Maryland with Zorro in tow and landed at our foster mom's house - the place where we found our baby - our first baby. The red Dobe was outside bouncing about. We couldn't believe her energy! It was cold, winter again, and here we were, looking to take on the responsibility of another rescued dog.

Well, for us, if was love at first sight, but there was Zorro in the car. When he met her, she gave him a run for his money! She was like a fire cracker and he was just trying to keep up! In the end, there we were in the Element with two dogs and a long ride home. "Pixie" is a lap dog - she never wants to be separated from us. She jumped into Mad and Scott's lap. Zorro and I were in the front seats, managing quite fine as long as "She" stayed in the back seat. At home, it was topsy turvy. Zorro didn't know what to think. "This" play friend didn't go home. She STAYED at the house.

Month 3, we've had trials and tribulations, BUT we have the greatest family unit as well! We named her Pixie: naughty little fairy that she portrays. Think of Tinkerbell in Dobe clothing - and you have Pixie. Is she mischievous - you bet! Do we regret adopting her - Never! We had it easy the first time. Kind of like a first child - enticing you into having a 2nd. Pixie is Miss Personality: She barks at the wind at inappropriate hours, she nibbles on our clothes, she clears 4 foot baby gates in a single bound...we could go on. But, happiness and dedication and love are what she is about. She "protects" Zorro and the family; she jumps under the covers at 6:15am with only good morning kisses and love to offer; she WANTS to please - she tries so hard to follow commands and does quite well when treats are involved! We know she may have come from somewhere not so nice or where she didn't get the attention this high energy girl needs. What she lacks in training she make up in her "eager beaver" attitude to learn. Zorro and Pixie have been gifts in different ways. Zorro taught us about loving unconditionally. Pixie taught us about loving unconditionally - but in a very different way.

Pix came to us with a questionable canine. We didn't have her a month and the tooth had to be extracted. We were told the damage done to her tooth was the result of crate anxiety which her foster mom believed an appropriate call. Lucky for her, we don't have room for a crate so she gets the sunroom and kitchen all to herself during the day.

We don't know what her life was like for over the first 6 months. But since then, she's had a lot of loving; a lot of correcting; a lot of "we are so lucky to have you". She will be with us until the end of her days. Thank you to DAR&E for helping us to realize our potential as a family. We can't imagine life without our rescues. And naughty Pixie, oh, she is a keeper. Every family should have a "second child" to set them straight and help them realize love really has no boundaries.
