About Desiree

Desiree is a petite red/rust Doberman with floppy ears and a docked tail.  She is affectionately known as the “Energizer Bunny” by her foster family!  She is a true “velcro” Doberman only wanting to be where you are.  She will jump any and all baby gates to get to you!

Our veterinarian estimated Desiree to be between 1-2 years old but we think she is closer to 1 as she is very energetic and playful.  She loves to play with toys!  Whether it’s playing fetch, tugging or chewing she is happiest with a toy in her mouth.

Desiree is quickly learning basic obedience skills like sit, come, watch me and leave it.  She is still working on stay/wait as well as not jumping or mouthing to get attention.  For these reasons her forever home should not have young children.

She is highly food motivated which makes her easy to train.  Desiree is also learning to walk nicely on a leash without pulling.  She is very nervous around new people and situations and can act out by lunging/pulling on the leash.  She is learning to “watch me” and “sit” when we see strangers on a walk and is catching on very well.  She lacks socialization and confidence and needs a home that will provide consistent training and structure.

Desiree rides okay in the car with a harness and seatbelt attachment. Without being belted in she would probably be all over the car!

She is house and crate trained, only whining occasionally and will quickly quite down with a correction or two.

Desiree has a lot of energy and would make a great running partner or agility dog.  Her forever family should be active! Because of her energy level and need for lots of training, Desiree will need to go to an experienced dog owner.

Desiree currently lives with a cat in her foster home but will bark and chase it, so her forever home should be feline free.  Her foster family has a 2 year old male Doberman and they get along well, so she may enjoy having a canine companion.

Please consider opening your heart and home to this young pup!

This Is My Story

Desiree was being used as a breeder and not being well cared for.  A good Samaritan convinced her owner to give Desiree to her. The Good Samaritan asked DAR&E to find Desiree a good home.
