About Papi

Papi  is a 3 1/2  year old red Doberboy with cropped ears and a docked tail.  His ears don’t stand, but they lay nicely and he is a very handsome fella.  He is quite tall and trim, and weighs about 75 lbs.  He is one very athletic canine, and LOVES to play with balls and flying discs.  He can even get four tennis balls in his mouth at once!

Papi is very inquisitive and energetic, and he will need a human who engages him physically and mentally.  No couch potato here.

He is very sweet and stays close to you most of the time.  He knows the basic group of commands well, but will need reinforcement and practice.  He barks at the door and at newcomers, until they are brought into the house and given a seat.

He sleeps in his own bed – or yours if you allow it.  We have not had any housebreaking problems with Papi.

He has excellent car manners except he will bark at cyclists.   His leash manners are basic, but will need continued training .

He crates nicely during the day.  Papi carries shoes and socks around the house.  Papi will countersurf for items within reach, and we have found that the squirt bottle is effective in training him “out” of some of his bad habits.

Papi is well socialized and good with cats and other dogs.  He gets a little over-exuberant at times, so human and animal housemates must be able to tolerate a large, young, energetic dog.

Papi would do best in a home with adults only.

He also requires a large, fenced in yard where he can be free to run and play with his favorite toys.  Papi is not a dog for the first time Doberman owner.

However, if you are an experienced owner and have the time and desire to continue with the training that he needs, Papi will repay you with the greatest of love and companionship.

This Is My Story

Papi was a much loved dog whose original owner became disabled and was no longer able to care for him.  Papi has been in a couple of homes since then, so we want to make sure his new home is the right fit for this sweet and energetic boy.
