Sierra was a senior girl who spent her last years in the comfort of DAR&E's Hospice Care. Sierra
crossed the bridge January 2002.
By her Hospice Care Foster mom, Jeannie
Sierra was taken from a back yard by animal control where she was being kept outside in all weather. She was very thin and in poor health. DAR&E put her in foster care where it became evident that she had Wobblers, a degenerative spinal condition which affects the vertebrae in the neck, and can cause weakness/paralysis in the extremities. In addition to that, Sierra's back legs were very arthritic. She was given medications/treatment for both conditions and, eventually, brought back to health. Today, Sierra is on daily medication for her arthritis and her Wobblers is currently under control. She gets daily gentle exercise and is discouraged from overdoing it to help keep her structurally stable. In spite of that, Sierra loves to play with the other dogs. Her particular favorite thing is to stalk them. She gets one in her sights and stalks it. Most times the other dog is oblivious to her as she slowly slinks towards them, but Sierra seems to get a big kick out of it anyway!
Sierra is one of the kindest, sweetest, most gentle souls you could ever meet. She loves everything and everybody, and wants only to be near her human. She has these big, beautiful, soft brown eyes that just melt you. How anyone could have looked in those loving eyes and treat her as they did is beyond me! She is a very beloved member of my family, and I am glad I got the opportunity to share in her life. She certainly enriches mine!
