About Willow

Willow is a confident and playful 2.5-year-old black/rust female Doberman. She has natural ears and a docked tail.  Willow came to DAR&E overweight. She is currently on a weight loss plan that her adopter will need to continue to get Willow down to a healthy weight. She currently weighs about 100 lbs.

At home, Willow loves to be a couch potato for a good chunk of the day. She likes to snooze and watch the birds outside. The other half of the day is time for fun! Willow enjoys regular walks and is very playful – her favorite activity is a game of tug of war! Willows strength and youthful energy require a strong, confident handler. Check out her video:

Willow is house trained and well-socialized. She has no problem with grooming or sharing food/toys. She knows basic obedience commands (Sit/Down/Stay) and is very food motivated which supports further training efforts. Willow previously had access to beds/sofas. She has been receptive to repetitive correction by her foster parent, but any adopter should be aware that Willow is accustomed to being allowed on furniture.
Willow prefers to have company most of the day. If left alone, Willow is not destructive but can be slow to settle, and care should be taken to avoid her snacking on her favorite item – tissues and cardboard. When a family member returns home, Willow will meet them with excited wiggles and will offer her favorite toy as a welcome home gift.
Outside the home, Willow is confident and active. She enjoys being outside and particularly likes to put her nose to the test; checking out the local scents.  She can pull on her leash, so would benefit from some positive reinforcement leash training. Willow is positive towards other dogs, but usually prefers to let them pass with a quick sniff rather than engaging directly. Similarly, Willow has no problem interacting with strangers and is not reactive in a busy city environment.
Willow is not accustomed to staying in a crate.  If an adopter expects her to stay in a crate she will require proper/slow steady crate training. When given a regular routine, Willow settles quickly for the night on a dog bed in her foster’s bedroom. She especially enjoys having a blanket to hold/nibble until she falls asleep.
Willow is a delightful young lady. If interested in Willow please contact me to learn more about her.  Willow is being fostered in Washington DC.
