About Abe

Abe is a 5-year-old Doberman, turning 6 this year. He was born on 9/1/2019. We got him when he was a year old from a family who fell on hard times during COVID. He is a very sweet and loyal dog. He loves affection and cuddling. He has lived with our family, which includes 3 children, now ages 17,15, and 12. He will do best in a home with older children, mostly because he likes to play, but then he likes to chill, and he has gotten irritated with my son when he was younger if he was bugging him while he tried to relax.

Abe walks great on a leash and is used to a fenced-in yard, but it is not necessary, as he likes to be inside most of the time. He has lived with a 10-pound female Shih Tzu the entire time he has been here, and more recently with my ex-husband’s female Rottweiler, and he gets along well with other dogs. He is the alpha to the Rottweiler and the beta to the Shih Tzu, ironically, maybe due to the order in which they were here.

Abe is very territorial of his yard, but when simply outside of the fence, he has no concerns. The female Rottweiler is not fixed, and there have been some instances of marking, I believe, due to that. He is fully housebroken otherwise.

Like many dobes, his pacifier is his blanket, which unfortunately is not always gentle. He ends up putting holes in them, and they become his. I try to think of it as I buy blankets, where other dogs want bones.

ABe rides in the car well, but it is not his favorite thing to do. He makes a mess when he drinks and lives for meal times!
